Post Buddhist talk thoughts
Jun. 13th, 2025 06:59 amJust finished my event on Buddhist art and I need to compile my notes/review recordings. I just wanted to state something that pinged the video game nerd in me, a quote from the presentation.
In Japan "You conquer poison with poison, evil with evil." -Chief Curator Kakuyuki Mita of Nara National Museum. He went on to paraphrase 'It isn't the pure that banishes evil'
There was a lot of thoughts I have pinging around my brain, especially in regards to FFXV with Buddhist overtones. For instance there was talk of how, in Esoteric Buddhism, you would see statues/art which depict demon-ish looking figures wielding divine weapons. These weapons are meant to purge sickness ("Sickness" was the actual word used and the translator mentioned it could also mean 'evil)
Anyways yeah I'm nerding over like 8th century scrolls and now need to calm down to sleep. It was an AMAZING presentation/event the Japan Society of Boston put on with the Nara National Museum.
